American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around New York is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

My parents sent me a “house warming” gift to come check this place out after they’d won best croissant in 2026. Adorable, inside and outside. Great, friendly, quick service. And the baked goods….. wowowowowow. Very deserving of its award.

I was invited to join a croissant-making class here, and honestly, it was such a fun experience. Instead of coming for pastries, I got to go behind the scenes and learn how croissants are actually made, from preparing the dough, to shaping different styles of croissants, to baking them fresh. It felt very French in the best way possible. As someone who had never made croissants (or really any pastry) before, I was surprised by how much I learned and how enjoyable the whole process was. And the best part? We got to take home a ton of freshly baked croissants. They were genuinely delicious, and I’m not just saying that because I made them myself! We also got to bring home extra dough so we could bake more croissants later, which was such a nice bonus.

These macarons are absolutely perfect — crisp on the outside, chewy and soft on the inside, and the flavor balance is just incredible. You can really tell they're made with care and high-quality ingredients.

Stopped by Mille-Feuille Bakery Cafe in Greenwich Village and tried their Royal slice cake and Macarons—everything was absolutely yummy! The cake was rich and perfectly balanced, and the macarons had great flavor and texture. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you’re craving something sweet.

Mille-Feuille is one of the best bakery in NYC. They consistently serve top notch and tasty pastries. We had classic croissant, ham and cheese croissant and blueberry croissant and all were phenomenal. Croissants are baked golden brown with flaky and crisp exterior and soft, buttery inside. It has rich buttery aroma and delicate layers of texture. They currently even offer group baking class for making croissants and macrons, which are very popular 😋
